MILWAUKEE, April 9 -- Directors of A.0. Smith Corporation
(NYSE: AOS; Amex: SMCA) today declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of
$.17 per share on Common Stock and Class A Common Stock payable May 15, 1998
to shareholders of record April 30, 1998.
